Australia Fair today under my windows there is a community rock-n-pop chest beating session going: exclusively australian-idol scales, no trace of country or aboriginal or whatever outside of the four chords of pop - another way to boost political sales (with most of the shoppers moving online) for some reason, it reminded me how eight years ago i became citizen in the ground floor of the immigration department building, there would be a highly regulated and pretty quick queue to a counter from which you were distributed to yet another counter, and then perhaps to another one - i dont remember, it all was streamlined we were counted and around forty-fifty of us were placed in a small room with low ceilings, all office-white, with no furniture or decorations; the fire sprinklers on the ceiling somewhat reminded shower heads about to get activated we were asked to recite the oath and sing the first stanza of the anthem (australia fair sounded weird in the clinically white room full of indians and chinese); it was real quick; trains were passing behind the windows - we were some sort of sanitized cattle compartment, around the easter fair time thats how i became citizen of newtown with the permission to enter redfern at any time without visa
