Australia confirms blocking loans Publish date/time: 01/10/2013 [16:02] The Australian National University in Canberra received a letter in August this year from the previous Kevin Rudd led government that no lending to Fiji from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank will be supported by Australia. Although the Rudd led government had stayed silent on the issue despite many queries sent by Fijivillage, the ANU finally received confirmation on this matter. This is after the ANU’s Stephen Howes said the Australian government had blocked the ADB and World Bank loans to Fiji and tried to block Fijian soldiers from going to new UN peacekeeping missions. ANU’s Associate Director, Development Policy Centre, Robin Davies said it is clear that this was happening. There is an audio file attached to this story. Please login to listen. Acting Australian High Commissioner to Fiji Glenn Miles had earlier denied that Australia had tried to block the loans to Fiji. Story by: Vijay Narayan
