Australia could go broke if budget not repaired: Joyce Not only is this patently false (we are one of the wealthiest countries in the world and in a very strong financial position), but the budget recently handed down is not a budget if net cutbacks and savings. All the savings made (largely via reducing entitlements of and assistance to lower income households and removing resources from community infrastructure and services) are just spent elsewhere – funding election promises, paying for tax cuts, concessions, and benefits for wealthy households and big business.
