Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Victoria Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts. Issued at 5:02 am EST on Monday 30 September 2013. Weather Situation A high pressure system east of New South Wales will move slowly across the Tasman Sea over the next few days. A vigorous north to northwesterly flow is developing ahead of an intensifying cold front that will reach western Victoria later today. The front will then move across central districts early Tuesday morning, clearing eastern districts early Tuesday afternoon. Damaging winds averaging 60-70 km/h with peak gusts of 90-100 km/h (reaching up to 110km/h over elevated areas) are forecast for parts of the South West, Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts this morning, extending to the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country and North Central forecast districts during the afternoon. Peak wind gusts are likely to increase to 120-130 km/h this afternoon with thunderstorm activity and about elevated areas. Winds are forecast to ease over western districts early Tuesday morning, central districts by late Tuesday morning and eastern districts by early Tuesday afternoon.
