Australias weather and the BOMs predictions of a hot dry summer - TopicsExpress

Australias weather and the BOMs predictions of a hot dry summer now hang in the balance, the factors influencing our wet and cool start we have had to summer have weakened and could dissipate. The current MJO event is still strong and is in the last phases of its cycle therefore only likely to affect Northern Queensland over the next few days. The monsoon trough and associated low level trough is forceast to bring showers and unsettled conditions to QLD and NSW as it moves west to east and away form the Australian mainland. The two lows that were a cyclone candidate have moved closer to the QLD coast and are now unlikely to develop into anything more than a tropical low. There is another low well away from Australia near the Solomon Islands that will most likely become a cyclone, but it to will move away from us. No doubt if it does the Pacific worriers will be shouting out about SLR. So at the moment it is looking like we could be in for some summer weather, though there is now a lot of moisture in central Australia that will influence the eastern states. What happens to the BOMs predictions depends upon if the monsoon trough can re-establish itself off NW WA. There are small signs it will if it does and if another MJO event follows immediately behind this one then at most wee will see a week of clear sunny weather before returning to our Indian summer and kissing goodbye to the BOMs Hot dry summer prediction.
