Authority recognizes authority. In Acts 16:35-40, Paul was imprisoned after being beaten and disgraced for preaching the gospel. (Who does your preaching offend or does everyone like what you have to say?) The magistrates sent instructions to the sergeants to release Paul. Even though it was a word that would have brought liberty to Paul, a word that would have freed him, he was man of authority and commanded to deal with men of authority. He refused the sergeants saying, You all have beat me openly and now you want to release me secretly? No. Send me those in authority that I can speak with them. In other words, I am going to make a fool out of them. When you know who you are, you dont bend and buckle to just anybody. You dont kiss up to people because they have something you want, rather, you stand for what is right regardless to what it costs you. You wont let people mishandle or mistreat you. You have dignity and you respect yourself. Paul said, Tell THEM to come and release me. And you know what? They did just what Paul, a prisoner, commanded them to do. They brought their high and mighty selves down to his cell and opened the gates. If you want to know who you are and where you are, authoritatively speaking, consider the resistance you are up against. If your main struggles and strongholds are addictions, emotional problems, and etc., you are dealing with lower ranking spirits sent to bind or IMPRISON you. But when you are contending against MAGISTRATES, those are RULERS who fight against your destiny as a man or woman of God. They govern principalities and regions. Paul knew what he was dealing with therefore he sent the imps, lower ranking spirits, back to their bosses with a word of instruction and they, knowing the authority that he had, I AM A ROMAN, hearkened to him and released him. Dont get caught on the I AM A ROMAN bit. Pay attention rather to the fact that PAUL knew WHO HE WAS... Now, do you know who you are?
