Authority to Tow He replied, I saw Satan fall like lightning - TopicsExpress

Authority to Tow He replied, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Luke 10:18-20 Shortly after I fell asleep last night I awoke to the sound of a noisy truck in the parking lot outside of my apartment. I then heard it back up, backup warning beeps and all. Every once in a while the fire department comes out for a call with their big truck, but when I got to the window there wasnt a fire truck to be seen. Instead, a tow truck was being positioned near a vehicle in a reserved parking spot. It took a while (with the noisy truck running and occasionally re-positioning) to get the improperly parked car removed, but eventually it was. After witnessing this, I was curious about the legality of towing someones vehicle off of private property without their direct consent. As it turns out, the tow truck cant just come take cars that look like they might be parked improperly or missing a parking permit. Instead, the property owner or agent (in this case, the lessee of the parking space) must be present, present proof of ownership and sign that they want the vehicle towed. Until all of this happens, the tow truck has no authority to remove the car, no matter how improperly parked it is. Sure, the tow truck is always capable, but it cannot act without authority. I specifically call out the authority component because it correlates directly with our spiritual battles. Because we are children of God, He has given us authority over all evil in the spiritual realms. See, Satan has the audacity to come park his car so to speak where it doesnt belong and influence our lives and the lives of those around us. But, we have authority to cast Satan out by the power of Holy Spirit. Until we take up that authority and act, however, Satan will continue to torment us. Its not at all a question of power - God is infinitely more powerful. Instead, Satan is fighting in a struggle of authority. He tries to exercise authority anywhere he can get away with it. And he will until someone who is more powerful (like the tow truck) comes with authority (like the property agent) to drive him away. But then, when we drive Satan out in the name of Jesus, he is gone, has to leave, cant stay. To be complete, however, it is important to note that the Bible says when we drive out evil spirits that the Holy Spirit needs to instead dwell where these spirits used to dwell, lest they come back seven fold. *Heavenly Father, thank you that you have complete and total power over Satan and evil. Thank you that you have given us authority over evil. Please help us to recognize the authority youve given us as well as when it needs to be exercised. Yet let us rejoice and glory in you, not that evil submits to us. In Jesus name, amen! Always challenge Satans authority in the name of Jesus wherever you find it.
