Autumn news 2014 Cutlery by Michael Angove Michael describes the new ‘Cutlery design as, ‘A menagerie of familiar objects made to look sophisticated and fresh’ ‘Cutlery’ is a brand new bespoke design for Ary Trays from Michael Angove Design Ltd. It is a drawing of a series of antique and vintage pieces of cutlery. Michael draws the pieces in a trompe l’oeil style to try to trick the eye into believing the pieces are really lying on the tray. The effect is mesmerising and brings a smile to peoples faces. Along with the items of cutlery, which include spoons, knives and forks are surprise elements of butterflies, eggs and string bows. Spoons wear butterflies like bow ties. The cutlery design for each of the tray sizes and shapes is slightly different with added items and varying compositions which makes building the collection more interesting and also creates a feeling of ‘Something Special’ for every tray. Michael’s inspiration behind the trays was a little bit of Downton Abbey mixed with a bit of childhood memory and indeed most people have an association with these elegant pieces of utensil. The largest trays that can be used as tables have spectacular compositions bursting with drawings specially placed to fit perfectly within the tray silhouette. The drawings are set against clean flat modern colours of White, Slate, Red and Sky and give the drawings a sense of clean modernity that really suits contemporary homes as well as country comes.
