Aviation History: On this day in 1908 Orville Wright was demonstrating the Wright Flyer to the army at Fort Myer, VA (Wilbur was in France demonstrating the Wright Flyer to the French and Europe). Orville had Lt. Thomas Selfridge onboard when the aircraft sustained damage to a prop. The flyer crashed and Selfridge later died from his injuries becoming the first victim in a powered aircraft crash. On this day in 1976 the prototype space shuttle Enterprise was debuted ushering in a new reusable spacecraft.
