Avocado, one of the oldest fruits known to civilization, contains some of the most vital ingredients for mankind. This green-shaped, fleshy fruit, which is spherical in shape and resembles a pear or an egg, has extremely high nutritional content. Besides water, this fruit contains a fair amount of carbohydrates, fat, dietary fiber, protein, and varying degrees of potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, folate and various essential vitamins. Earlier known as ‘avogato pear’ and later known as ‘alligator pear,’ this fruit is widely grown in a number of countries in the world, which have a tropical or sub-tropical climate. Like banana, the avocado grows on trees, but ripens once it’s been gathered off the trees.
