Awesome Cross Country District Meet at Bush Park. Girls team were District Champions for the first time ever! And will be going to the State Championship Meet next weekend in Eugene at Lane Community College. All Cats girls were in the top ten, led by Soph. Payton Hopkins in 5th with a massive PR. She was followed by Junior Jillian Wilkinson in 6th, who impressed everyone with a wicked kick to pass a Chemawa runner in the last 20 meters. Also running lifetime best races were Senior Monica Chatelain and Frosh Jaykayla Jackson, who finished close together. Still battling an injury but running tough was Senior Rebekah Whittles. Final times and places can be seen on athletic.net. Nestucca capped its awesome day by celebrating with District 3 Coach of the Year Gordon Whitehead. The cats dominated the meet, tallying 29 team points to second place EastLinn Chr. 57 The boys team finished 4th, one place from qualifying for State. Brad Shaw led the young Cats with an 8th place finish, with a season best 17:47. Raymond Jackson-cruz ran his best race of the year to nab 20th, followed by Adrien Morgan 26th, Jordan Whittles 29, Cody Cody Kirkendall 34, Andrew Morgan 42, and Isaak Welch 52. The team returns all runners next year, and hope to make their own trip to Eugene then!
