Awesome session from the Functional forum/Evolution of Medicine - TopicsExpress

Awesome session from the Functional forum/Evolution of Medicine with James Maskell in NYC. Couple of points mentioned that I would like to elaborate upon. Naturopathic medicine has know fir years and is a part of our training what is now being adapted by the Integrative model; however for whatever reason, perhaps for the need for recognition or financial gains, many of us are choosing to function as Green Allopaths, abandoning the foundations of that which makes our medicine unique, a few examples include constitutional hydrotherapy, addressing the microbiome of the gut by encouraging beneficial flora through diet (fermented foods, unpasteurized foods, probiotics, etc. The other point I would like to highlight is the need for creating a balance between cost, and patient care. For the most part this involves an out of pocket cost on for the patient particularly for specialty lab tesrs, but we have to recognize our value/ worth. We also need to keep the lights on in our respective practices. Nothing disturbs me more than when folks casually expect me to provide medical consults/advise without a paid consultation. First of all that constitutes bad medical practice and involves operating outside the confines of our lisence. It also de - values our worth as practitioners. You would not ring up your MD and request medical advice without scheduling a paid app oi tment. The same respect should be shown to NDs. If you value our knowledge, value the fact that we need to be compensated for our time. That being g said. Patient empowerment through education and environmental awareness is pivotal in receiving health gains for the patient. They need to view themselves as Co- managers of their health with their practitioners as facilitators, Doceres. Enjoy this absolutely fabulous video!
