Awesome story! British Spitfires really tore up the German Luftwaffe in WW2 partly because they were good planes but more because of the skill of the pilots. I worked with an old German chef at La Costa whose first culinary gig was as a good for the German army and his first day on the job involved an attack by Spitfires which left holes in all his pots and pans, leaving him unable to provide meals for the troops.
