Ayurveda Introduction Course (An introductory course for healthy living through Ayurveda) By Dr. Nikhil Mehta Introduction The basic purpose of this course is to empower every individual with knowledge about healthy living. This should make him wise enough to take care of his own health. We have chosen the best among the eastern wisdom and western science to make it complete. The basic philosophy is based upon the age old wisdom of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is that most ancient and advanced system of medicine, which was originated in India. The roots of Ayurveda can be traced thousands of year back. Unfortunately the system which is looked upon as the best available therapeutic systems for last thousands of years, is somehow been sidelined due to various reasons. Ayurveda have the approach of prevention is better than cure, which is requirement of today. We all know that our individual health and also the health of our society is in danger due to the hectic lifestyles we are subjected to. Many new diseases have been emerging which can definitely be prevented if we observe the principles of Ayurveda. Today almost every one of us needs a strong body and mind which will help us to live happily. Various newer systems of medicine have emerged in last few years, but as all of us know the disadvantages are more than the advantages. Considering the today’s life, one must take the responsibility of ones own health, by understanding the natural laws of health explained in Ayurveda and by using simple herbal remedies to get rid from common illnesses. To achieve the above one must understand the Ayurveda with its principles, food habits, life style, daily and seasonal routine, herbal remedies etc. One must understand the holistic style of living described in Ayurveda and to introduce it in our daily lifestyle. It is a known fact that even a small change in lifestyle can make a big difference in the health status of the individual. Aahara, the food science. (The information about all food types e.g. cereals, pulses, dairy & ghee, oils, vegetables, fruits, spices, nuts & dry fruits) 6. Organic & less refined, less processed food 7. Dincharya, the daily routine. ( how should be the ideal routine & how to balance the disturbed routine, the importance of rest) 8. Principles of daily exercise. 9. Rutucharya, the seasonal routine. (how to change the diet& lifestyle as per the changing season) 10. Correlation of modern science, upcoming research & Ayurveda. (E.g. free radicals, cholesterol, Vit. D & B 12, calcium &iron, omega 3 & 6 etc.) 11.
