Ayyoob al-Sakhtiyaanee said: Sa`d Ibn Abee Waqqaas, Ibn Mas`ood, Ibn `Umar and `Ammaar bin Yaasir رضي الله عنهم gathered in a place and they mentioned about the Fitnah. Sa`d said: “As for me, I would rather sit in my house and not participate in it.” Ibn Sireen said: It was said to Sa`d Ibn Abee Waqqaas رضي الله عنه: Do you not participate in the fight, for you were one of the Members of Shooraa, and you have more rights over others in this regards? He said: “I will not fight till you provide me with a sword which has two eyes, a tongue and two lips, and which can distinguish a Muslim from a Kaafir; for I have participated in Jihaad (with the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم) and I know (the rulings and conditions of) Jihaad?” [Hilyatul Awliyaa (1/94)]
