Azpilicueta: Happy to be home News After spending so much of the summer on the road, Cesar Azpilicueta can’t wait to be back playing at Stamford Bridge tonight. It is almost three months to the day since our last competitive match - a 2-1 win at Cardiff - and since then the defender has been involved with his country for matches in Spain, the USA and Brazil. Azpilicueta then returned to club duty three weeks ago following his involvement in the World Cup. This summer he has featured for the Blues in Slovenia, the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey and, most recently, Hungary. It is little wonder, therefore, that the home comforts of SW6 that await Azpilicueta and his team-mates tonight – including a pre-match presentation of the players to supporters – is an exciting prospect for the 24-year-old. ‘I’m very happy to be back playing at Stamford Bridge,’ he tells the official Chelsea website. ‘It’s been a long time since we played there. We couldn’t finish with the happiness of winning a trophy last season so we are looking forward to starting again and being in front of our fans. ‘We know that they are going to support us and the introduction before the match is a really nice thing, especially for the new players who will meet the fans and discover the amazing atmosphere at Stamford Bridge for the first time. We want to win the game for them.’ Azpilicueta’s three seasons in the Osasuna first team, between 2007 and 2010, coincided with Real Sociedad spending time in Spain’s second tier. ‘I know they’ve improved a lot since then,’ says Azpilicueta. ‘They got promoted and then they finished fourth two seasons ago so they qualified for the Champions League which they played in last year.
