B. Blake Watkins ooooooooh my God today!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so very much for this introduction and first hearing!!! I dont even have words to express.....smh....an overwhelming sense of joy, wonderment, longing, and inspiration. I smiled sublimely throughout...nearly at tears of ecstasy and sorrow. Hearing the promise and potential of things to come....all while understanding seemingly finite trappings of the tried and true smh Born in 1954, the late Thomas Whitfield was only 22 when he recorded this work in 1976. I dont know how old he was when we actually conceived and composed it. SMH but WHO writes like that at 22 (or at any age for that matter??!!) Who hears music like that? It is most certainly by very definition...cantata in form....and not a gospel cantata....because his musical influences are beyond gospel music conventions, progressions, and systems typically used in that era. The man was pure genius. It is not clear to me that the industry pushed his music toward a particular definitive expression...but he (unfortunately) did NOT make full development and expression of his awesomely unique endowment. His brief time here must have been to help prepare him (and us) for our time in eternity.
