B Grade Rd.9 Match Report, Pt.2. In perfect overcast conditions for bowling, the guys set our to defend 138 against the Guildford goats. Bryce started well, claiming a wicket in his second over with Leon reeling back the years to take a sharp catch at second slip. Wade then got the second in his second over, James Chaffey giving everyone a heart attack as he took the catch, it was in, it was out, it stayed in! Guildford 2/13, the goats third wicket consolidated taking the score to 40 before Jimmy Moran broke through with his first wicket in B Grade, a long overdue achievement. The goats batsmans eyes lit up as big as dinner plates as he tried to send Jimmy into orbit only to be completely bamboozled and bowled middle stump. At 3/40 it was definitely game on but Kelly & Burchell toughed it out in a good 4th wicket partnership before Connor again proving he has the midas touch, getting a wicket in his first over with Leon taking a skied catch at mid on. 4/84, the game poised a knife edge...enter Nick Woodman! Nick had bowled seven good overs straight without success, yet his next three were to be a match winning performance. 4/84 became 5/85 as he had the new batsman chopping one onto his stumps. It was his next over that did all the damage, first Connor took a great sharp catch to make it 6/88, which a ball later became 7/88, middle stump rattled first ball to the new batsman to see Nick on a hat-trick. The batsman survived that ball, but not the next, 3 wickets in 4 balls had seen the goats crash to 8/88. Not content with that though, Nick again hit middle stump in his next over to have them 9/90, and claim his first ever 5 wicket haul in B Grade, 4 of them clean bowled! Wade was then brought back into the attack and claimed the final wicket in the 32nd over, with a catch taken by that man again Nick. Guildford all out 99, a terrific 39 run win to lift the boys off the bottom of the ladder. Nick finished with match winning figures of 5/22 off 11 overs, even more impressive that he went for 11 in one of his overs, take out that and its 5/11 off 10, superb bowling. Congrats to all the boys, we still grassed a few but there were some really good catches today, and overall, our fielding was pretty tight. Next week we have off, then were back at the camp on the 20th Dec facing North Castlemaine. Complete bowling figures; Bryce Roberts 5 1 1 22 Wade Smalley 8 1 2 17 Nick Woodman 11 3 5 22 Jimmy Moran 4 0 1 22 Connor Leevers 4 1 1 10
