BANGALORE: Close on the heels of the arrest of a Christ University NCC officer for alleged physical harassment of a 19-year-old student, the Karnataka & Goa Directorate of the National Cadet Corps said it will take action against the officer. Air Commodore C Rajeev, deputy director general of the directorate, said action would be based on the findings of the college inquiry into the allegations. Meanwhile, the directorate is doing a sensitization exercise for all NCC officers in the state on how to deal with cadets, especially girls. It will also cover staff on deputation from the armed forces and other civilians, sources said. The Christ University harassment came to light after the girl attempted suicide by consuming rat poison. She sent an SMS to her father before she did it. Ajay Pavithran, a lecturer-turned-NCC officer, was later arrested. He is out on bail but the college has suspended him pending inquiry. An Army officer deputed with the NCC admitted that the spirit of the uniform needs to be inculcated in all staff.
