WHEN POVERTY BECOMES MISERY The philosopher Majid Rahnema theorizes the difference between poverty and misery. Despite the lack of material resources, poverty allows the maintenance of social relations, culture, traditions, dignity, morality, intellectual freedom... The misery, however, does not destroy only the resources, but leads to exclusion and restriction at ethical and spiritual level, corrupting culture and traditions and consuming morality, ideas and hopes.... It depressing to see how, in these times of crisis, globalization is pushing us not to poverty but to misery, with only one antidote: SOLIDARITY.
