BARANGAY Ginebra managed to beat Meralco to the draw after successfully signing up Michael Dunigan as the team’s import for the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Gin Kings team manager Alfrancis Chua said Dunigan, who is officially measured at 6-8 13/16 in the PBA, will be arriving either Thursday or Friday, just shortly after wrapping up his stint in the NBA D-League Showcase. The pony-tailed Ginebra team executive added that Dunigan’s size, energy and defensive presence are just some of the things they need to revive a ballclub that is in search for a first league championship in seven years. “He (Dunigan) already signed the contract,” Chua told sportswriters, just before the start of Game Six of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Sunday. “We got him, mainly because of his energy. He plays hard. Iyun ang kailangan namin, plus he can play four and he can play five,” he added. Dunigan, a product of the University of Oregon, averaged 23.9 points, 15.4 trebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.4 blocks in 42.1 minutes during his stint with the Air21 Express in the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup, where they lost to Alaska in the quarterfinals. Shortly after his stint with the Express, Dunigan played for the Seoul Samsung Thunders and the Wonju Dongbu Promy in the Korean Basketball League, before becoming the Canton Charge’s 12th overall pick in the 2014 NBA D-League draft. The hard-banging Dunigan averaged 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per contest for the Charge during the 2014-15 NBA D-League regular season.
