BARQUI REDUX! I survived the red trucks incessant honking, and the barking of Barqui the Barking Dog. Both were eventually removed from right under my window. This one, though, Im going to have to wait out. That vacant lot next to the three-story building I live in has been purchased, and the constructions begun. Sound carries in a strange way here on my street. The toka, toka, (pound, pound), that goes on from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. sounds like someone is hammering directly against my bedroom, and kitchen, and office wall. When I climb to the roof and look down, though, the hammering seems to be going on in several holes dug into the ground for the start, I think, of a cement foundation. Ive moved out of my office, because thats where the sound reverberation is worst. Its least offensive inside my garden palapa,(yay!) but I cant do everything there--Im involved in too many things right now, some of which require a desk surface to work on. I cant throw the workers sleeping pills in hamburger like I did Barqui. Looks like Im heading out to Radio Shack this afternoon to get wireless earphones. What was it the Dalai Lama said: Why be unhappy about what you cant change, because you cant change it? Why be unhappy about what you can change, because you can change it? Maybe those construction workers would like a small morning gift of enchilada laced with sleeping pills.
