BASIC TRAINING OF ASTRONOMY Basic Training OF ASTRONOMY From 6 - 8 September 2013(ጳጉሜ 1 - 3) ESSS Research, Education and public Outreach committee is organizing a 3 day training program in basic astronomy that will be conducted from 6-8 September 2013 for ESSS members and enthusiasts of astronomy and space science. This training is a part of the ESSS Research, Education and public Outreach committee plan which is aimed to promote and inspire basic astronomy education to the youth at primary and secondary education level. ESSS is putting up a huge effort more than ever to conduct such training on regular basis, so as to address and inspire as many youth as possible. During the training, the following themes of fundamentals of astronomy are going to be covered:- 1. History of astronomy § History of astronomy world wide § History of Ethiopian Astronomy 2. Observational Astronomy § How to measure distance & locate heavenly objects in the sky § The celestial sphere § Coordinate system § Stellar motion 3. Earth, Sun and Moon § The Moon & Eclipse § The Sun 4. The solar system Life Cycle of Stars Constellations 5. Universe , Space Exploration and Astrobiology 6. Universe 7. Galaxies 8. Space exploration 9. Astrobiology and Extraterrestrial Life 10. Astronomical events and space applications 11. Astronomical Tools § Telescope § Optical telescope 12. Galileo telescope Demonstration and computer session 13.
