BBC Entertainment exec named creative director at Initial BBC Entertainment commissioning executive editor Mirella Breda is moving to Initial as creative director. Breda, who will take up the role in February next year, will be charged with expanding Initial’s output of entertainment formats for the UK and international markets The appointment follows Nick Samwell-Smith’s promotion in September from creative director to managing director of Initial Over the last five years at the BBC, Breda has worked with in-house and independent producers in developing and executive producing a wide ranging slate of entertainment and factual entertainment formats and events for BBC One and BBC Two, including Masterchef, Room 101, James May’s Man Lab, Mary Queen of Shops, Dragons Den, Comic Relief, Sport Relief, Celebrity Masterchef and Initial’s series, Total Wipeout (pictured). Prior to her current role she was executive producer, BBC features and factual entertainment commissioning, with further credits including Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen, The Hairy Bikers Ride Again and Castaway 2007. During her 18 year career in the television industry, she has worked in a range of senior development and production roles at broadcasters and producers including RDF and Granada. Breda says, Its been an absolute privilege to be a BBC commissioner but Ive always been a programme maker at heart and I couldnt turn down the chance to work with one of the best creative teams in the business. Initial is part of Endemol UK.
