#BBOG FG, American firm sign pact on power The Federal Government on Friday signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), with an energy company, based in Missouri, U.S., for the injection of 250 megawatts to the national grid. This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Power signed by Mrs Grace Njoku on behalf of the Deputy Director, Press, Mr Timothy Oyedeji. She said the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, signed the MoU on behalf of Federal Government while the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Henry Iwenofu signed for the U.S. firm, known as Missouri American Energy. She quoted Nebo as saying that the injection of 250MW into the national grid would provide energy quicker and boost the provision of power nationwide. According to her, the company’s decision to site a gas-fired plant in Rivers, Nigeria’s gas hub is a welcome development. She quoted the minister as calling for more small-scale investments in the power sector to enable Nigeria to quickly realise its vision of “access to power for all”. Njoku also quoted Nebo as reiterating the ministry’s commitment to the actualisation of the power sector’s vision of “electricity for all Nigerians in the shortest possible time.” Nebo assured the company and other potential investors of necessary support in the realisation of their goals for the sector. The President and Chief Executive Officer of Missouri American Energy, Mr Henry Iwenofu, called for government’s collaboration in facilitating the execution of the first phase of the project. He said that the consortium was already discussing with development partners with a view to ensuring seamless execution of other phases of the project. (NAN)
