BE BOLD AND COURAGEOUS TO OBEY GOD: Joshua.1:6-7, 9. Be strong and of a good courage--. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observer to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. Have I not commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage, be not afraid neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. The Lord through Moses commanded Joshua and in extension you and me to be of good courage, because it takes courage (1) to obey God. Acts.5:29. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men. (2) It takes courage to stand for the truth when all others are on the other side. John.6:66-69. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. (3) It takes courage to do the will of God. Eph.6:6-8. Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. (4) To stand in holiness and righteousness. Jer.35:5-6. And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine. But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever: (5) To say No to sin and gain that comes with compromise. Pro.1:10-16.My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. (6) To stand alone for the Lord against the world and worldliness. Daniel.1:8. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the kings meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. (7) To reject demands for evil or immorality from your boss or his wife when you know that your job, your freedom and life is at stake, it takes courage to say I rather lose my life, job or freedom than lose my integrity. Gen.39:7-12. And it came to pass after these things, that his masters wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his masters wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. Exodus.19:5. Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all the people: for all the earth is mine. It takes courage to obey God, may God give you and me the courage to obey Him.
