BE CONTENTED... In a world that is fast changing ,numerous reasons and theories have been debated over and over about the true source of happiness. Despite these arguments , happiness remains elusive to the point that people have lived entire lives unsure if they were happy or if they were ever going to be. One thing is clear; everyone desires a good life for themselves. The efforts, the toils and the prayers of all people is for a better day and a brighter tomorrow. The first step towards genuine happiness is contentment. Contentment is not the absence of ambition or the forsaking of dreams but the wisdom to be happy and of mental ease; despite and in spite of the position of your dreams and the status of their fulfillment. It is the declaration of independence from the parameters of life that constantly demand to measure and quantify the amounts of joy you shall be allowed to enjoy. That right is yours! No amount of money, position, power or influence has the right to dictate the temperature of your joy. All of lifes ups and downs, triumphs and failures, lows and highs are not your superiors but your subjects. None of them should have the power or permission to determine your happiness. As constant as your breath and your heart beat, so should be the contentment in your heart whether things go north or south. The life of a good person prospers by the day. The journey of that prosperity is not marked by accumulation through savings but by contentment in sufficiency at every stage. Contentment is not achieved; some day in the future, it is a now reality that you can live in. Prosperity is not the grand ensemble of lifes trophies, cars, big houses, champagne, pomp and show but contentment with sufficiency. I believe there are people that are rich at heart but own no luxuries. Whatever the definition of your riches, ensure that contentment is part of the recipe. Whatever image of success wets your taste buds, ensure that the ease and the peace of mind are part of the retinue. Greatness is not for the great, it is for anyone that can be simple enough to trust and obey. Greed is the creed of cowards. Valiant men live selfless lives but in their selflessness is more abundance than the hoarding arms of the discontent can amass. True riches are not found in bank accounts and stock exchange, they are found in the investments you do in the lives of human beings. The peace and tranquility of a contented soul is more luxurious than the assurance offered by the most expensive medical covers. It is incomparable to money, beyond the strappings of power and above the toppings of wealth. There is more riches in contentment and peace of mind than in the diamond mines of South Africa and the Oil fields of Saudi Arabia. Never compare yourself with a monied person who has no contentment. Their joy could be superficial and illusional but genuine happiness comes from a satisfied heart. Contentment is the ease of mind, the inner peace and the resident happiness that is undeterred by external fluctuations. It is the gratitude that resides in ones soul and heart in spite of and despite contrary realities. Contentment is the bridling of envy and the arrest of jealousy based not just on the mere belief but on the assured knowledge that The God that gave somebody else something good, can also give us when we need it. And He doesnt need to reduce another person so as to supply your need, because to Him, there is more where that one came from. God can give you and then give me and give him as well and give her too and not diminish His stockpile. Contentment is reliance on such divine dependability. And since we belong not to ourselves but to God, why do we worry over what God should be worrying about. Contentment is the ability to believe that today is sorted and my worry therefore is unnecessary, in fact, it is a hindrance to my enjoyment of today. God has not even promised to take care of your tomorrow, He has commanded your tomorrow to take care of itself so today you can relax and enjoy His company and the day He has given you. I am not downplaying your efforts to become great and to work hard. I believe that hard work without contentment at intervals of completed tasks can actually steal your resolve to become great in the first place. To be happy and contented at where you are at all times is your fuel station for the rest of the journey. Dont fret, choose to relax! There is no better picture of contentment than that of a child. He has no cares, concerns, worries or even the knowledge of good and evil. He is unbothered by logic and logistics, unaware of scarcity of supplies and even incognizant of dangers and threats. It is rare that for a child to die of worry or commit suicide because they are stressed. Giving up on life is a result of seeing no way out but not seeing it doesnt mean it isnt there, it just means you may need your eyes to make an adjustment . Contentment sees the details that panic misses. Worry sees the problem, contentment sees solutions. Peace and confidence in the face of chaos, needs and threats commands an actualization of your faith instead of your fears. It is your contentment that aggresses and demands your sustenance in situations that warrant your death. This contentment cannot be better summarized but by the Words of Jesus; only believe, all things are possible. As you face life, remember that you are not merely a competitor at the league of destiny, you are not even a winner; you are more than a conqueror. Stay calm, keep your cool, relax and enjoy every moment. This is the day that The Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it! Bishop
