BEFORE WE ARE TREATED LIKE RAIF BADAWI Raif Badawi is a 31 year old Saudi Arabian blogger who believes and pursued his ideals of tolerance, equality and secularism. He cashed in on the vibrancy of the social media to advance his beliefs by creating a discussion forum called the Liberal Saudi Network, through which he encouraged debate on religious and political matters in Saudi Arabia and also advanced the message that all men and women should be treated equally with no matter the religions they belong to. Today, Raif has been deprived of the love of his three children, his wife and his numerous friends as he is presently being subjected to the most inhumane of treatments in Ruwai Prison located in Jeddah, where he is expected to serve a ten years prison sentence and also receive 1000 lashes of flogging. His crime? He preached tolerance. One of Saudi Arabias most respected cleric, Sheik Abdulrahman al-Barak has also declared Raif Badawi as a non-believer and an apostate for blogging that Muslims, Jews, and Christians are all equal. This is happening because the Saudi Government is run by a group of oligarchs who do not have any training outside Islamic studies and power struggle. They have not been able to break away from the bondage of bigotry and subjugation of new ideas. Raif Badawis predicament may not be far from us in this part of the world, if General Muhammadou Buhari magically finds his way into Aso Rock. Like the Princes and King of Saudi Arabia, Buhari does not believe that any law is superior to the Sharia, and it is by the dictates of the Sharia law that that fine soul and Comrade called Raif is languishing in prison and receiving the worst form of dehumanization. APC............... CHAINS! APC................CHAINS!
