BEFORE YOU GRADUATE Graduating from the university or passing out from NYSCis a thing of joy for the graduands after 4-7years of struggle, challenges and mountain which some were unable to surmount, having died or dropped out in their course of studying. As exhilarating as this may be, it is usually followed by a depression about what the future holds. The euphoric disposition is usually proceeded by a period of depression due to the uncertainties abounding in our world today, it is therefore expedient that some things be settled and put in place before graduating. This is necessary because if you don’t plan for the future you want, then failure is inevitable. We must also know that the important things of life are not taught in school for instance, you will not be taught on how to get a good husband or wife, how to keep a home, how to combine colours or how to make money from any institution. Do you blame them? Let’s now delve into some things that needs to be settled before graduating The number one thing you should have full knowledge of before you graduate is who you are. Who are you? This is a question of identity and self-discovery. It will help you to look inward and discover your inner strengths and weaknesses, values, norms etc. please, take time to know who you are really because nobody will do that for you and it is important you do this if you must be successful in life. Secondly, you should know why you are here. Why were you born? What assignment do you have to carry out in this world? This question gives you a sense of purpose and it makes life easy for you as you will only be doing things that are related to your purpose and you will safe your strength rather than wasting it. Try as much as possible, with the help of God, to be sincere with yourself. It is noteworthy to say that your purpose in life may not be related to your course of study, never mind, just be sincere. Thirdly, you should know what you are capable of doing. This is a question of potentials. What are your strengths, what moves your spirit, what do you love doing that you even forget to eat or sleep? What do you want to be known for? This is an important question because God has already equipped you with what you needed to fulfill your purpose in life and that is your potential. For instance, the popular Nigeria music tycoon, Tu Face Idibia, said in an interview that he already had the passion for singing from a tender age and he worked on this talent and today he is a champion in that field. What are you passionate about? You can’t do everything so, identify your strength! Lastly, where are you going? This is a question of vision/destiny. Do you have a clear vision about yourself? Have you identified your potential for fulfilling your destiny? Conclusively, these important questions of life are not taught in any institution of learning, it is up to you to determine whether you will fulfill purpose or not. You are to determine your relevance to the society and the world at large. Remember, if you are not asking questions, you are not growing and if you are not growing, you are not living because one of the characteristics of living things is growth. Also, note, real life begins after school!
