BEHOLD THE HANDMAID OF THE LORD, BE IT DONE UNTO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD This is a continuation of the previous text “THE ANGEL OF THE LORD DECLARED UNTO MARY AND SHE CONCEIVED OF THE HOLY SPIRIT”. Recently, while surfing the net I came across an article captioned “Three Questions You Must Answer Before You Die” posted by J. B Wood on thehighcalling.org. The three questions are as follows: 1. If you won the lottery (pick a number, a very big number), what would you do? 2. If you knew that you only had five years left to live – yet you would miraculously be in perfect health until the last breath – what would you do? 3. If you had only 24 hours left to live, what would you regret not doing? The author of the text explained that the questions seek to determine: 1. My purpose/vision/dreams, 2. My topmost priority, 3. My spiritual values After reflecting on this questions and giving myself the relevant answers, I rephrased the questions to give a more lively awareness of them. Here they are: 1. What is the origin and object of my dream? 2. How many days are left for me to live? 3. What if today is my last on earth? Shocking, aren’t they? But we can’t run away from these realities. Few days ago the news had it that a movie star – Paul Walker - died in a ghastly motor accident after visiting a charity home. Friends and fans mourn him. May his soul rest in peace. He was one among many, who went on that fateful day, to yonder. Is physical death not a constant? Do I know my own time and in what manner? What if it is after now? If these questions inspire dread, please cast them off and reflect more clearly on the second set of three questions above. There is ample time to straighten things. It is just a matter of a second. Let us look carefully at the questions especially in the context of the title of this treatise. First, what is the source and object of my dream? In our world today, almost everyone thinks about self from the beginning to the end. Otherwise, how can we explain our leaders amassing and stashing away of wealth? And the vivid envy by the led? The leaders build castles on vast mass of land, acquire exotic cars and private jets, and enjoy all forms of luxury at their disposal. The led build their own castles in the air, drive unimaginable cars and get lost in various forms luxury in their wonderland. God is almost never thought of. Purposelessness! Who determines the purpose of a car, object, or piece of article? Is it the maker or the article? We were all made by God. Who else can tell us what we are made for but Him? And even when He tells me, how do I react? The time is far spent. Every second is ticking away. What have I allowed my maker to do with me? What is He doing with me now? If there’s tomorrow, what have responded “let you word be done” to? If there’s no tomorrow, what will be my lot? I can only advice myself to emulate Mary who does God’s will without hesitation. Another pointer is the fact that God’s will is always tasking, and pointing to humanity. But he equips us adequately for the task. I must open up to his inspirations today; acknowledge my limitations and His greatness and love. I must not delay for I do not know what the next second holds for me. Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy kingdom come in me and through me. Amen.
