BEING AN ACTIVE CONSUMER IS HAVING RESULTS. KEEP THE REPORTS COMING - POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA Consumer Action Bahamas has been advised that following VAT violation reports made by residents including our Group, numerous businesses in Nassau have been inspected by the relevant authorities. When we launched Consumer Action Bahamas on January 3, we published that Berthas Ribs in Nassau was charging VAT without being registered to do so. We are advised that on inspection today, Berthas was no longer charging VAT. MAKING REPORTS IS SHOWING RESULTS. Thank you to Group Members who came forward to post information in this matter. Businesses that charge you VAT without being registered are breaking the law and are subject to penalties and fines. Lets keep the social media posts coming. WE ENCOURAGE FAMILY ISLANDERS TO JOIN THE GROUP TO SHARE INFORMATION ON ANY VIOLATIONS HAPPENING ON YOUR ISLAND SO THAT WE CAN HELP YOU WITH GETTING THE RESPONSES YOU NEED. We encourage all residents to stay vigilant, and report all VAT violations to the VAT Unit at the following contacts: Phone: (242) 461-8050, (242) 225-7280 (VAT Hotline) Fax: (242) 361-4034 Email: [email protected]
