BENEFITS OF INCORPORATING OLYMPIC VALLEY -Self-determination. Decisions are made locally, by the residents who will be affected by them. Currently 4 out of 5 Placer County Supervisors live in the foothills, 70 miles away -Most tax and Transient Occupancy Taxes (TOT) generated locally will be kept and used locally, not in Auburn -Any new TOT from future developments, which will be significant, will be controlled by the new Town -Services, such as road maintenance, snow removal, fire protection, and police are prioritized locally by the residents who will use them -A locally elected Town Council can respond promptly to residents’ need for new or improved services -With such a small population, all residents and stake-holders, both permanent and part-time, can easily get to know the Town Council members and lobby directly for their interests -Jurisdiction over development and land-use issues resides with the Town government, not the County -The new Town will create a new Squaw Valley General Plan, replacing the current, out-of-date 1983 Plan -A local Planning Department can be more responsive in a timely manner to better serve the needs of the local builders and developers -Unresponsive Council members can be replaced by Olympic Valley voters, unlike the County supervisors -A new Town will allow us to better preserve our community’s heritage and culture
