BEST GEW HOSTS WERE SELECTED Host organizations in 25 countries were selected this week as the finalists for awards that recognize their contributions to Global Entrepreneurship Week and their efforts towards helping build entrepreneurial ecosystems around the world. “The host organizations that guide Global Entrepreneurship Week in more than 140 countries are at the forefront of efforts to reach new audiences and build the connections necessary to support entrepreneurial growth,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of Global Entrepreneurship Week. These finalists ran inspirational and effective campaigns that helped millions of people unleash their ideas and unlock their potential. Since their inception six years when the GEC was hosted in Kansas City by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Global Entrepreneurship Week Awards have honored Hosts from nearly 30 countries on five different continents. Of special interest this year, as in others, is the Country of the Year Award, the award that recognizes the best overall Global Entrepreneurship Week campaign. Nominees include hosts from Algeria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Mexico. Past winners of this award were hosts from Cape Verde, Turkey, the Netherlands, Canada and Brazil. This year marks the first time that the Rookie of the Year Award will be conferred to recognize younger campaigns being run around the world each November by a new host organization. Also new to this year’s roster of awards is the Research + Policy Award, recognizing hosts who engaged policymakers through their GEW campaigns and contributed to efforts to assess the policy environments for entrepreneurs in participating countries.
