BEST THING ABOUT THE VALLEY WAS THE MIX OF CULTURES AND HOW WE ACCEPTED EACH OTHER, HELPED EACH OTHER, AND LIVED WITH EACH OTHER IN HARMONY. JUST WANTED TO SHARE ANOTHER FUNNY MEMORY LIVING IN THE VALLEY: I had a Jewish girlfriend once, back in my mid-20s. I once asked her if it was OK for me to see a Jewish Temple service because I was curious, and she said yes. So we went to where her family usually went for worship and I was welcomed quite warmly and was given a kipa, a traditional headdress. And so in I went, and since I had no clue what was going on, I just picked this guy next to me who was about the same age as I am, and stood when they stood, sat when they sat. But at one point, I noticed that the guy next to me stood up, and when I stood up as well, no one else stood up. Then there was much giggling and pointing, and the guy grabbed me by both shoulders and forcefully pushed me back down to my seat. Turns out, it was a baby naming ceremony and the Rabbi had called, Would the father of the child please stand up.
