BETA THETA PI- “WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT” In April of 1984, the group Twisted Sister released the mammoth hit We’re Not Gonna Take it” and it quickly rose to #1 on all the charts and became an anthem to a large cross section of the youth in the country. There was this frat house, Beta Theta Pi, on Channing Way in Berkeley, which every day at 5 PM, carried a loudspeaker to an open window & blasted it- closing time for people at work. People loved that. Then they stopped doing it so the neighborhood sent a group over to the frat to request they restart. How about that, a neighborhood’s going TO a frat house asking if it could make MORE noise? You do not hear about that too often. So they obliged and every day they carried a large loudspeaker out onto the lawn in a sort of religious progression. Blasted it and went inside again. I love this song. As many of you know who have my emails: ************************************************* At 11:15 am on Friday September 2, 2005, I was lured to a remote area in Alexandria, Virginia, assaulted, beaten, dropped inside my car, and left there to die in the street. The assailants had ripped most of the elements of the electrical system of my Mercedes out of the car so I could not start the vehicle (or even recline the driver’s seat so I could pass away in relative comfort) with the expectation that the $140K vehicle would be just an expensive coffin. The assailants enjoyed themselves- laughing while they were carrying it out. *********************************************************** So when I went to the hospital for four weeks after that, as soon as I was able to move, I called for my B&O personal sound player and, once a day, blasted this song into my head via the earphones, dancing around my hospital room as it played.
