BG 3.11 - last paragraph of purport. krsna-varnam tvisakrsnam sangopangastra-parsadam yajnaih sankirtana-prayair yajanti hi su-medhasah In this age of Kali [the age of quarrel and hypocrisy], people who are endowed with SUFFICIENT intelligence will worship the Lord, who is accompanied by His associates, by PERFORMANCE of sankirtana-yajna. (Bhag. 11.5.29) Other yajnas prescribed in the Vedic literatures are not EASY to perform in this age of Kali, but the sankirtana-yajna is EASY and SUBLIME for ALL purposes. So my question is: does writing songs, in the music styles that I know of, about every topic I can think of relating to Krsna, or the quest to come to the platform of actually ACTIVELY LOVING Krsna and connecting to Krsna, the all-attractive Lord, (whom I accept to be the Supreme Being and the same time the Supreme Energy, that which is intimately dear to all of us, that which each and every one of us relates to in their own very personal way as a dear friend, or sometimes a dear confidant, or a lover, or a father, or mother, who is witness to each and every moment of our existences, while at the same time, being the life force at the center of each and every atom in our reality) [whew this is a massive run-on sentenceparagraph, but, fear not my dear friends, stay with me here, cuz here comes the turn-around], again, does writing songs in styles of music that is not considered traditional, and playing them to/with other people and getting them to join in the feelin, and the Maha-Mantra, the chant that according to the essence of the entirety of the Vedas, the collective knowledge of the equivalent of millions of people over millions of years, constitutes sankirtana-yajna? And taking this further, doesnt holding so-called rock concerts, again, as long as the core spirit is still there, nevertheless still constitute sankirtana-yajna? [sankirtana means chanting of the holy name of the Lord, yajna originates from the root word ‘Yaja’ in Sanskrit language. It means worship of divinity, congregation and charity, in short, sacrifice for the benefit of something other than yourself, while at the same time, if done with the right intentions and spirit, ultimately benefiting not just yourself, but everyone around you]. After all, it is easy and sublime for ALL purposes [relating to our quest to purify our hearts and connect with the Supreme, thus gradually affecting and slowly modifying our behavior, ultimately culminating in this world, that weve been entrusted to, being a better, more peaceful, less wasteful, less painful place to live and grow in because our collective behaviors are less selfish and violent and greedy]. The reason why I am pondering this is because I see attitudes of reluctance with the people who hold the purse-strings, and I see the loss of potentially momentous life-changing occasions, that if looking at the big picture, could have a role in altering the course of our collective existence from teetering on the brink of destruction, to a more positive path of reconciliation and true peace.. A lot to sift through, but I feel like I have a dam thats about to burst ;)
