BGU Commemorates Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Day on Campus A solemn mood was unmistakable as thousands of students, faculty and staff came together today on the Marcus Family Campus for BGUs annual memorial ceremony marking Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Day. Six memorial flames were lit by staff members and students, each person recounting their own personal connection to this years topic based on their own familys Holocaust experiences. The heartrending stories of survival by Jews from communities that ranged through Europe, Greece and Libya shared a common theme that each of the speakers credited to their respective parents or grandparents -- to never give up. Each had a story of that very instance where they knew their time was done but the kind word or a scrap of food or even a shoulder to lean on during the death march is what made the difference between survival and death.
