BIBLE STUDY 29.01.2014 ALIVE TO GOD: Psalm 18:39 You have armed me with strength for the battle. - Sometimes it can feel like we dont have the strength for what we are facing. - But God wants you to know that He has and will strengthen you. - Whatever the battles may be, He will enable you. - Receive His strength and enabling power right now. STREAMS IN THE DESERT: God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early (Ps. 46:2, 3, 5) Shall not be moved--what an inspiring declaration! Can it be possible that we, who are so easily moved by the things of earth, can arrive at a place where nothing can upset us or disturb our calm? Yes, it is possible; and the Apostle Paul knew it. When he was on his way to Jerusalem where he foresaw that bonds and afflictions awaited him, he could say triumphantly, But none of these things move me. Everything in Pauls life and experience that could be shaken had been shaken, and he no longer counted his life, or any of lifes possessions, dear to him. And we, if we will but let God have His way with us, may come to the same place, so that neither the fret and tear of little things of life, nor the great and heavy trials, can have power to move us from the peace that passeth understanding, which is declared to be the portion of those who have learned to rest only on God. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God; and he shall go no more out. To be as immovable as a pillar in the house of our God, is an end for which one would gladly endure all the shakings that may be necessary to bring us there! --Hannah Whitall Smith TIME ON THE MOUNTAIN: 2 Peter 1:3-4 As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. Why should God tell you a lie? He loves you so much that He sent His Son to this world to die for you. John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” Let’s look again at the beautiful Scripture you read a moment ago in the Bible reading from 2 Peter 1:4 – by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. God has given us His promises. We don’t have to conform to this world my friend. We don’t have to say, ‘well Uncle Angus, everyone else in my class is sleeping around and they will think I am a bit weird, because I am not sleeping around.’ You don’t have to go that route. You can tell them God has promised me that when the time is right He is going to bring someone into my life and I will know when it is the right person. One of the greatest promises in the Bible is found in Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all hese things shall be added to you.” We looked at this scripture already this month – but it is worth mentioning again. If you are battling to have a child, come before the Lord together. If you walk in righteousness and if your life is upright before God you can ask these things. Abraham did – read Romans 4:20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God. Abraham said, God you promised me and I made a covenant with you.’ God honoured His promise and Abraham and Sarah had a son, his name was Isaac. Isaac begot Jacob and Jacob the twelve tribes of Israel, and so we can go on down through history. We are part of the seed of Abraham, if we are men and woman of faith. This is exciting. Ezekiel 30:1-26 NIV The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, prophesy and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “ ‘Wail and say, “Alas for that I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries. I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him like a mortally wounded man. I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fall limp. Then they will know that I am the Lord , when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he brandishes it against Egypt. I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries. Then they will know that I am the Lord .” SONGS FOR TODAY: Newsboys - In the hands of God https://youtube/watch?v=VOnyz_w5Zno&feature=youtube_gdata_player Jesus Culture - Mighty fortress youtu.be/rb9PZxb9T9g Chris Tomlin – Awesome is The Lord Most High youtu.be/AP7vObd4Rco SPEAKER’S NOTE: God will strengthen you. Whatever you are facing. He is an awesome God. He is Almighty and all powerful. I remember when we were preparing for the Solar Challenge in 2012. The task we faced was unbelievable. Many people thought we could not pull it off. To be honest there were times when we thought we could not pull it off. With little to no sleep for 3 weeks before the challenge. Our spirits grew week and we started to think we should never have tried, with only a few days to go, and so we prayed. And we prayed together. As we prayed we felt the strength and determination returning to us. We crossed the start line feeling incredulous. And we finished on the podium. I will never forget our team huddled shouting God’s praise and praying thanks for what He had done. He is an amazing God. Don’t let any man tell you anything is impossible.
