BIG MYTHS about how the Red Wolf Coalition keeps the doors open and the lights on: BIG MYTH #1 - We get government money. THE TRUTH: No. We do not. Not a penny. A grant from the USDA Rural Development helped to pay for the wolf enclosure, which is on federal property (Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge). BIG MYTH #2 - We bring in lots of revenue from programs and merchandise sales.. THE TRUTH: No. We do not get any revenue from our programs. The wolf enclosure is on federal property. We cannot keep any proceeds from programs, and we cannot sell merchandise on federal property. BIG MYTH #3 - We have big fundraising events featuring VIPs and celebrities.. THE TRUTH: No. We are in a rural area, quite a distance from any metropolitan areas. Thus, no big fundraisers. No VIPs. No celebrities. BIG MYTH #4 - We have a Development Director who writes grant proposals that bring in lots of money. THE TRUTH: We dont have a Development Director. We have one paid staff member. The rest of the work is done by volunteers. BIG MYTH #5 - We are stretched pretty thin. THAT IS NOT A MYTH. We are. THE BIG TRUTH: This week alone, we have had 1203 new page likes so far.
