BK: December 5, 2014 at 9:51 pm (Quote) Let me speculate why Singapore’s Corruption Perceptions Index published by Transparency International dropped and wont ever go back to its elevated position again. Before GE 2011, the international community just accepted that the official news were bona fide. After GE 2011, more and more analysts are picking up the alternative media to: 1. initially to try to understand why PAP’s ass got kicked, no one expected it 2. upon realization of possible different data and opinions, they start to compare official news vs alternative news 3. independent analysis over a suitable timeline 4. and now they are recalibrating This is what happens with a MSM that is ranked as a stooge. When all is hunky dory, and PAP called the shots, and do what they wanted, no one bothers to check. Because what they say they can deliver. But not anymore. Citizens especially those on social media had made a difference, they are the ‘disruptive but creative’ force and one to be reckoned with. If PAP says yes, and the alternative media says no. Dont hold your breath, coz now PAP has to negotiate. In one sense, the alternative media is bringing to the fore the true picture of ‘corruption’ in Singapore. I dont see anything wrong with that. But what is wrong is when PM LHL had said he dosent care about the MSM ranking. And this will drive more and more analysts to the alternative media to form a better picture of Singapore. So, dont say social media is nothing. It is actually alot more than it seems.
