*BLACK HISTORY FACT* Charlotte Eugenia Hawkins Brown an African-American civic leader and educator was born on this date ub 1883, Brown founded the Palmer Memorial Institute, which was a prep school for African-Americans. In addition to running the Palmer Memorial Institute, Brown fought tirelessly for civil rights, lecturing in opposition to lyunching and in favor of interracial cooperation. Brown helped to found the National Council of Negro Women, the North Carolina State Federation of Negro Womens Clubs, and the North Carolina Teachers Association. She was also on the national board of the YWCA.
