BLACK PAST BLOG POST ALERT: From William Leidesdorff in 1845 to Pamela Spratlen in 2011, African Americans have a long history of Foreign Service on behalf of the United States of America. Leidesdorff was appointed Vice Consul at Yerba Buena (now San Francisco), when California was part of Mexico, while Spratlen - who just so happens to be an official BlackPast.org Contributor - is the current U.S. Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.
