BLASPHEMING THE HOLY SPIRIT The unforgiveable sin. Many are confused about what it is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit (different from grieving Him). Based on what I can draw from Scripture (there is not much written on this issue) blaspheming the Holy Spirit is simply having the full knowledge of who Jesus is, being convicted by the Holy Spirit to repent and be saved, yet still willingly rejecting that call. God is patient and merciful in drawing people to salvation but there comes a point in time when the opportunity to be saved runs out, after a rejection with full and complete knowledge accompanied by the Holy Spirits conviction of sin and drawing to repent and believe. The issue with blaspheming the Holy Spirit in the context of Mark 3:28-30 is that (many of) the Pharisees and religious leaders knew the OT Scriptures to the point that they could not deny that Jesus was the Messiah but He was not everything they expected (basically He was not one of them). With this full knowledge instead of believing they tried to defame Him by claiming He was demon possessed. Those in this camp at that very moment forever lost their opportunity for salvation.
