BOARD INVITES COMMUNITY TO MEET TOP SUPERINTENDENT CANDIDATE The Westlake Board of Education is pleased to announce that Parma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Graham is the top candidate for the Westlake City School District’s superintendent position. The Board invites the Westlake community to the June 16 Board of Education meeting – 6pm at the Westlake High School Rotunda – at which time Dr. Graham will make a presentation about his background and his goals for the Westlake City Schools. In addition to Monday’s presentation, Dr. Graham will meet Wednesday morning, June 18, with representative groups of school district teachers, staff members, administrators, parents and community members. The Board will gather input from these groups as it finalizes the selection process. The Board is appreciative of all who applied for the superintendent’s position, especially the finalists whose varied backgrounds and experiences made this a difficult decision. Dr. Graham became superintendent of the 11,500-student Parma City Schools in 2010. During his tenure with Parma, Dr. Graham led the district to pass its first school levy after seven straight failures, six of which failed before he arrived. He also led the consolidation of the district based on community priorities, as well as research and best practices. Those efforts resulted in the implementation of the K-4 and 8-12 STEM programs, a redesigned special education program providing the least restrictive environment, a 1:1 technology plan and the expansion of the world language program. Additionally, Dr. Graham initiated a strong strategic planning process inclusive of all community stakeholders. Prior to his position with Parma Schools, Dr. Graham was superintendent of Woodridge Local Schools in Peninsula, where he reduced achievement gaps among students. Professionally, Dr. Graham was a two-time president of the Akron Area School Superintendents’ Association, served on the Ohio School Leadership Institute and represented Ohio superintendents at the Reform Support Network in Washington, D.C., in 2012. He is a member of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, the American Association of School Administrators, and the Governance Committees for the First Ring Superintendents Collaborative, the Ohio Schools Council and the Greater Cleveland School Superintendents’ Association. Dr. Graham earned his undergraduate degree in education from Kent State University, a graduate degree in Secondary Education from the University of Akron and a doctorate in Educational Leadership with a concentration in the superintendency from Ashland University. Dr. Graham also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
