BODY RETREAT In February of 2015, I will lead a Body Immersion retreat at Prana del Mar, Baja Mexico. A retreat from technology and data and fast-twitch. A retreat to inquiry, contemplation, real body discovery and process. Body Immersion is a 7 day program of excellent cuisine, rest, and body education, throughthe pilates discipline and other cognitive movement technique. Such education changes a person for more than the few months after re-entry to life’s carrousel. Here at the edge of the waning wild, the relentless pacific, there is a sea change, a permanent change to one’s psyche and sense of opportunity and potential in one’s body and being. I have taught pilates and cognitive movement in Madison for 17 years, as a life-commitment to facilitating others in increased and enhanced self-awareness, self-acceptance, and body education. Gallery of photos from other retreats: pilatespa/slide-gallery/ At Prana del Mar, Baja, Mexico An expanse of coast so long one can walk, mightily, for half the hour before making a decision to scale the snail-encrusted rocks to a place high above the whales taking breath, or retrace. In one moment, the sand slants to the sea on a slope gentle enough that the water takes its time in tiny rivulets between each grain, and later that day asks you to climb twelve feet straight down to reach the infinite waves. Pacific Ocean. Swallows the sun whole each night. Just so. Over the dune and five minutes walk back from the edge of this ocean, the buildings of Prana del Mar undulate low across the desert. They cycle and recycle water and sun to bring you clean cuisine of the highest order and a place to sleep in deep and enduring quiet. In all that sun and breeze and space, and between meals and walks and sleep, Kathleen leads you to find your breath, your inner strength, your outer ease, a sense of grace. Pilates Immersion. At Prana del Mar. Immerse your body in conscious moving ~ The immersion into 12 or more pilates mat classes, and as many stretch classes, will train your brain with the repetition needed to really begin to know the discipline. Sharper focus and concentration will change the physical level at which you are able to execute the controlled moves. The increased precision challenges more refined muscle coordination. You will learn something about yourself. Join us on the beach for a silent stretch class at 7:30 am. At the bell ring we walk up to the Movement Room for an hour or more of pilates and other cognitive movement learning, and then replenish with brunch. You have the morning to run the beach, walk the labyrinth, build your own labyrinth, get a massage, swim the lap, or take a nap. In the afternoon, we reverse the order of integration. At 4:30 a mat class on one of several themes, for example, Egg for Power or DaVinci’s Man or giving up your champagne butt for a Kodo Drummer butt, and then back to the beach for a sunset stretch. A fabulous healthy dinner awaits. Snorkeling, surfing, whale-watching, horseback riding, fishing, shopping are available in Cabo. Or take an art walk in Todos Santos, and a flight in Ultralight. Immerse in Prana del Mar~ All guest accommodations have polished travertine floors, granite counters and ocean views. King or Queen beds have resort-quality organic sheets. A living room and full gourmet kitchen are available to each guest room. Beyond the suites, lies a community building with a large dining room and lounge area with fireplace. Massages, body wraps, and other therapeutic treatments are available in luxurious and quiet spa rooms. The blue floor of the roof deck matches exactly that of the sea. Comfortable, custom-made teak patio furniture surrounds the 55’ pool and hammocks swing in the garden areas for quiet relaxation or contemplation, or enlivened viewing of horseshoes or bocce ball. The Movement Studio is 1850 square feet with views west to the ocean and east to the mountains. It is a large, enclosed room with a palapa (thatched) roof that gives it an airy feeling, large windows on all sides, and bamboo floors. All props - mats, blankets, straps, blocks, bolsters, sand bags, and eye pillows - are high-end and consistently cleaned. It is gorgeous!
