BONIFACIO: ANG UNANG PANGULO If you are Filipino, YOU. SHOULD. WATCH. THIS. FILM! So many powerful scenes. Makes you think, move you to tears, puff with pride, and cower in shame. In the first half, I was reminded that I want to demand apology from Spain for the hardships they caused the Filipino people in their 300-year rule (and from the Vatican for the harsh Catholicism imposed by the Spanish friars). In the middle, I was reminded how sad it is that power/politics/ambition of kapwa Pinoy caused the death of our good hero, Andres Bonifacio. Hindi pa sa kamay ng mga dayuhan in the battles he fought eh. Great performances by ALL, no exaggeration. I am not a fan of any of the actors, but it took much of me not to stand and shout, bravo! when Mr. Robin Padilla, as the Supremo, lead the historic tearing of the cedula; when Ms. Vina Morales, as Oriang, walked away from the cell of Bonifacio and begged to talk with Emilio Aguinaldo; and when the Bonifacio brothers were executed. Even the crowd people, the Katipuneros, and the Spanish characters were very, very effective. Thumbs up also to Mr. Jericho Rosales as Jose Rizal. Costumes, sets/location, and props were great. Prior watching, I was hesitant with the presence of Mr. Daniel Padilla and Ms. Jasmine Curtis, and their characters. Naku kung sila ang mag-na-narrate ng story (baka distracting, ano credibility nila, etc). Fortunately, they were just students learning about the story of Bonifacio in a museum. By the way, saan yung museum na yun? I want to visit. As I am gushing already, it is obvious that I find the film to be excellent. Please, please panuorin ninyo nang hindi mawalan ng gana ang mga producers to give us quality films like this. Namnamin ninyo ang istorya at pagpulutan ng aral.
