BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS Four of our current Governors (and 11 others) received this information via e mail in March 2013 from Catherine Rees Stephan (ex head of the school) her comments are in response to a condition report undertaken at that time - the one that makes the building apparently so toxic and hopeless that it should be pulled down! Work that needs to be done in the next three to five years totals £223,014. (Again, this does not include the work that needs to be done on roofs and windows).....Perhaps it is more realistic to spread this over ten years, which would be about £26,000 a year. I have decided not to take a view on whether or not we should have a new school - this is a matter for the community of Chagford and the school governors. In the e mail Catherine also acknowledges that the school has received 400K from DCC which will be spent on roof and windows in Summer 2013. This amount is separate from her figures quoted above. So, I ask again why are governors telling us that now 480K plus needs to be spent on the school today? That 223K would bring us up to perfect pitch, we would get this money from DCC if we politely push for it, and its certainly not enough to knock the old school down for. I think if we really looked at this matter together, governors and community, we would realise, in a very short time, that our school is no longer on the critical list and that a relatively small amount of money would make it a tip top pensioner!
