BREAKING NEWS BULLETIN: The U.S. Defense Department has confirmed that a soldier from American Samoa was killed over the weekend in the Afghanistan war. The Pentagon said in a statement today that 24-year old Army First Lieutenant Jason Togi of American Samoa died Aug. 26, in Hasan Karez, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. The fallen soldier’s parents are currently in the U.S. meeting with military officials for the return of their son’s remains back to the U.S. before being transported to American Samoa later.
