~~~~~~~~BREAKING NEWS~~~~~~~ The attorney who represents Minerva Partners, Ltd, the owner of approximately 34 acres due south of the proposed site for Buc-ees, has filed a formal NOTICE OF PROTEST Re: Buc-ees Corinth! Our City Officials did not follow legal guidelines to re-zone the retail space, at the proposed site for Buc-ees, The City allowed Buc-ees to circumvent the special use permit process, which would have required an impact study, traffic study, environmental and water use studies, by applying for a PD(Planned Development) instead. Here are some excerpts from the 8 pages that were filed today: A zoning change of this magnitude, which not only destroys a Zoning District, but divides it in a manner inconsistent with the CP, should be made only after receiving all pertinent information about the proposed development’s impact on its neighbors, traffic, water usage, and all other factors outlined as guideposts in the CP. (CP=Comprehensive Plan) UDC. (Unified Development Code) The proposed Buc-ee’s development and Planning Development could not be more at odds with the City’s Comprehensive Plan! Development of a Buc-ee’s Travel Center on the Subject Property will divide the City and undermine every effort previously made to ensure an aesthetically pleasing, livable, sustainable, and unified community. The traffic, noise, air and light pollution so near the City Center will ensure that the quality, desired development identified in the CP does not occur. A 60,000 square foot Buc-ee’s 96 gas pump filling station, an untold number (believed in excess of forty) of sinks and toilets using a projected tens of millions of gallons of water annually is not the type of neighbor a data infrastructure corporate campus locates near. In fact, a quick satellite internet tour of existing Buc-ee’s locations reveals that no other Buc-ee’s store is located immediately adjacent to a large residential neighborhood or a City Center, and the stores are primarily in rural or industrial use locations. More than half of those who spoke or delivered written statements at the July 28 meeting, OPPOSED the rezoning (End of Excerpts taken from the Notice of Protest) There were many more issues listed in the official protest filed today. The City of Corinth has deceived the residents of our town, not only by using deceptive means to ensure the proposed Buc-ees Travel Center gets pushed though, they announce meetings at 11am on a Friday for a 6pm meeting last Monday, which did not comply with legal rules for proper notice, they did not give residents who work until 5pm a chance to be present. Our Mayor told radio personality Mark Davis that a strong majority of people are FOR Buc-ees, We all know by the turnout at our meetings and the comments made that this is not true. How many other ways have we had the wool pulled over our eyes by our elected leaders? Shame on them for abusing our trust and not doing what is best for our community.
