BREAKING NOW!! LATEST UPDATE ROGUE RIVER DRIVE FIRE JUST got off the phone with Oregon Department of Forestry. Here is what is known this morning. The fire is about 138 - 155 acres in size. They are going to do a mapping of it later this morning to get a more precise acreage plot. NO structures were lost at all. NONE!! GREAT work by ODF and the local fire departments that responded! Crews on the ground using bulldozers, hand tools and saws got the fire 100 percent lined. It is NOT at any containment level at this point. What that means is...there is a scratch line in. But, scratch lines can get jumped if winds hit the fire. 5 helicopters are pounding away on the fire right now, and the air tankers are standing by and ready to go if needed. They likely will be up at some point this morning because there is a lot of unburned fuel close to the lines that presents a real threat. They are going to have hand crews in working today along with bulldozers re enforcing fire lines. Engines will be working to defend structures and hit the fire where they have access. Sounds like if they can avoid wind hitting the fire they have it pretty well stopped. There is going to be a lot of mop work to do out here so be expecting activity through the week. Rogue River Drive is closed to all but local residents only. This does restrict access to Takelma Park which is a major take in, take out point for those fishing the river, and for those just floating it. Dodge Bridge is open. There are no restrictions on floating the Rogue River between Shady Cove and Dodge Bridge, but watch out for helicopters dipping buckets in the river just upstream from Takelma Park in the Betts Hole.
